In 2021, the EU estimates that 25.9 GW of new PV Solar Panels Energy capacity will be connected to the grid, up 34% from 19.3 GW in 2020 and breaking the record of 21.4 GW in a decade.

The report forecasts continued strong growth in European solar, with 30 GW of new capacity installed in Europe in 2022, 327.6 GW of cumulative capacity in 2025 and 672 GW in 2030, implying that EU solar will double in four years. some time.

At the country level, two new countries have reached GW-scale installation levels in 2021, with Greece returning to the list and Denmark joining for the first time ever. The additions bring the GW Club membership to seven and the group is expected to grow to 12 by 2025.

Germany continues to lead in terms of total installed capacity, with 5.3GW expected to be installed by the end of 2021. Surprisingly, the per capita installed capacity of the Netherlands has surpassed that of Germany, reaching 765W per capita, an increase of 42% over 2020.

In addition, the report updates last year's review of progress in EU member states' National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs), finding that all EU member states are on track to achieve their national solar targets by 2030 or earlier. Notably, Estonia and Latvia have already achieved their solar targets for 2030, while Poland, Ireland and Sweden will do so by 2022.
