The Greek conglomerate Gek Terna announced plans to deploy three large floating Solar Energy Storage System photovoltaic power plants in each of the three reservoirs. The total investment in the project is expected to reach 170 million euros. In addition, according to reports, the national utility company PPC plans to deploy another 50MW, and InterPhoton Group is considering building a 500MW floating photovoltaic power station.

Greek construction company and energy provider GEK Terna Holding Real Estate Construction announced a plan to build three floating photovoltaic power plants in three reservoirs in western Greece, with a total installed capacity of 265MW.
The company said in a statement that the three projects will be set up outside the nature reserve and are expected to cost about 170 million euros.
One of the projects is a 120MW power station, which is planned to be built in the Kastraki artificial reservoir in Kastraki town near Aetolia-Acarnania. In addition, GEK Terna also hopes to build a 103MW floating array on the Pournari Reservoir on the Arachthos River and a 42 MW power station on an artificial lake also located near Stratos in Aetolia-Acarnania.
The company said it plans to deploy about 3GW of renewable energy capacity in the next five years, and these three projects are part of this plan. Among them, about 1.8GW is in operation or under construction or in preparation for construction in Greece, the United States, Central and Eastern Europe.
The Greek newspaper Ekathimerini reported that GEK Terna is not the only company planning to develop floating photovoltaics in Greece. PPC Renewables SA (PPCR), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the national utility company Public Power Corporation SA, also plans to install 50MW floating photovoltaic power generation capacity in the country.

According to reports, the company is considering deploying 50MW in the artificial lake of the Aliakmonas River in the Kozani jurisdiction and the small lake in Florina in northwestern Macedonia.
In addition, the newspaper also revealed that Interphoton Investment has submitted a planning application for a 500MW floating photovoltaic project to the Greek regulatory agency RAE, which is also planned to be built on Polyphytou, the southernmost tip of the Kozani-Servia wider basin. According to Ekathimerini, the solar power station is expected to account for about 4% of the total area of the lake.
