    Amazon's first sorting centre in Australia is nearing completion, and the world's largest online retailer has announced that its Victorian facility will be powered by 100 per cent electricity, including renewable energy from a massive rooftop Commercial Solar solar photovoltaic system.

    "As part of Amazon's commitment to achieving net zero carbon across its operations by 2040, the building is powered by 100 percent electricity, avoids the use of fossil fuels for its heating and hot water systems, and makes energy efficiency a top priority," the statement said. the company said.

    According to Amazon Australia, the rooftop installation is the largest solar PV system at one of Amazon's sites in Australia, with 3,078 solar panels covering 7,121 square metres of roof, on top of a purpose-built facility at the new Amaroo Business Park in Craigieburn.

    The 1.4 MW system is reported to be in operation and is expected to generate 80% of the energy needs of the facility, which is in the final stages of interior fit-out and is expected to open by the end of 2022.

    In addition to rooftop solar, the facility has 12 electric vehicle charging stations, with 30 to be installed in the future, representing 20% ​​of the site's total parking lot.

    The Craigieburn Sorting Centre, part of Amazon's network of 17 sites across Australia, says the rooftop solar installation will help the company meet its renewable energy goals, including its commitment to achieve net zero carbon across its operations by 2040 .
