The Ugandan government has announced plans to build four solar pv panels cost and wind farms in two locations in Uganda. The company previously signed a development agreement with Amea Power, an independent power producer based in the UAE.

According to the agreement, a 10MW photovoltaic power plant and a 10MW wind farm will be built in the West Nile region in northwestern Uganda. Project construction work is expected to begin before January 2021.
In addition, Amea plans to build the largest facility in the Karamoja region in northeastern Uganda. Amea Power head Hussain bin Jassim Al-Nowais said the company will build a 120MW wind farm and an 80MW photovoltaic power plant.
Uganda has abundant energy resources and is evenly distributed throughout the country. These include hydropower, biomass, solar, geothermal, peat and fossil fuels.
The country's energy development potential includes 2000 MW of hydropower, 450 MW of geothermal power, 1,650 MW of biomass cogeneration, 460 million tons of fixed biomass resources, an average of 5.1 kWh / square meter of solar energy per year, and about 250 million tons of peat. The potential of renewable energy generation is 5,300MW.

Existing solar energy data clearly shows that Uganda's solar energy resources are high throughout the year due to its proximity to the equator, with the maximum and minimum months changing by only about 20% (from 4.5 W / m2 to 5.5 W / m2). Sunlight is highest in the dry northeast, and low in the eastern and southwestern mountains.
On the other hand, the average wind speed is 3.7m / s, indicating that Uganda's wind energy resources are not sufficient for large-scale power generation.
