Uzbekistan: 2.9GW of photovoltaics planned to be put into production by 2025
Uzbekistan's President Mirziyoyev said at the United Nations General Assembly recently that Uzbekistan is studying the transition to green energy. The country plans to commission a total of 2,900 MW of installed photovoltaic and wind capacity by 2025. By 2030, the share of renewable energy in Uzbekistan's For Sale Solar Panels energy will reach 25%, and energy efficiency will also be doubled.
In September, Uzbekistan's energy minister Sultanov said in an interview with Russian media that the energy ministry, together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the international consulting firm Mott MacDonald, is developing a comprehensive strategy to reduce the country's carbon emissions. Uzbekistan's current energy production system relies primarily on natural gas, but a progressive strategy will help produce energy in a low-carbon form while meeting rapidly growing energy demands. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine has also formulated a 10-year power supply plan with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank. By 2030, additional power supply capacity will be built, including 5 GW of photovoltaics, 1.9 GW of hydropower and 3 GW of wind power installed capacity capacity. The share of renewable energy in electricity production will increase from the current 10% to 25% by 2030.
At the end of August, the 100-megawatt photovoltaic power station invested and constructed by Masdar in Uzbekistan was put into operation. Masdar, a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company, one of the largest clean energy developers in the world, has implemented projects such as the Zelavshan 500 MW power station and the 40 kW small photovoltaic power station in Tashkent Oblast in Uzbekistan. At the end of this year, another 100-megawatt solar power plant will be put into operation in the Samarkand region on the basis of government-private partnership cooperation with Total. In terms of wind power development, in mid-September, ACWA Power won the bid for the Karakalpakstan 100-megawatt wind power plant project, which will be completed and put into operation in mid-2023, with an annual power generation capacity of 400 million kWh. The investment is about $140 million. In addition to this project, ACWA Power is also building two wind power projects with a total installed capacity of 1,000 MW in Bukhara State, which are expected to be commissioned in December 2023.
