Africa's 10GW photovoltaic project advances

     The African Development Bank announced plans to install 10 GW of solar power home solar battery cost capacity in the Sahel. The multilateral lender wants to use abundant solar irradiance for the 250 million people in the region where energy is scarce.

    Now, during the fifth Sahel summit in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, regional leaders expressed support for the Desert Power Initiative. The heads of state said they will seek to attract private sector support for large projects.

    Burkinabé and G5 Sahel President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré said to reporters at the event: "The African Development Bank [AfDB] is our bank, and the private sector must participate in this important initiative for our countries. I have no doubt that development in Africa Under the technical leadership of the bank, we will be able to mobilize the necessary funds. Access to electricity is the key to the economic development, prosperity and security of the G5 Sahel country.
