Last week, a city in Georgia allowed Americans to see this potential future for the first time. It is reported that Peachtree Corners opened the first solar-powered highway in the United States to seek more green and environmentally friendly energy production solutions.

A solar road is a road embedded with solar panels, which are strong enough to be driven. It can absorb sunlight and convert it into usable electricity. These panels come from a French company called Wattway, which is testing solar roads around the world. Its cooperation with Peachtree Corners marks the first time that the United States has a functioning solar-powered highway. With the installation of Wattway's latest and most durable solar panels completed, the road will begin to absorb solar energy and be deployed at the electric vehicle charging station at Peachtree Corners City Hall.

Although the technology is advanced, it is not ready to enter prime time. Since these solar panels are installed on the test lanes of self-driving cars, there will not be a large number of vehicles passing this new technology. Nevertheless, it is unbelievable, and the city is aware of it. If this solar road proves to be a success in the end, the Peachtree Corners city government hopes to install more solar panels on sidewalks, bicycle lanes and other places. Its goal is to use renewable energy to provide electricity for more infrastructure in the city. Today, it is a charging station. Tomorrow, it may become a non-grid energy supply for street lights or power outages.
