10GW photovoltaic project in Africa strides forward

     The African Development Bank announced plans to install 10 GW of photovoltaic project in the Sahel. The multilateral lender hopes to make use of abundant solar irradiance for the 250 million people in the region whose energy is scarce.

    Now, during the fifth Sahel Summit in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, regional leaders expressed support for the Desert Power Initiative. The heads of state said they would seek to attract private sector support for large projects.

    Burkinabé and G5 Sahel President Roch MarcChristian Kaboré addressed the reporter at the event, saying: "The African Development Bank [AfDB] is our bank and the private sector must be involved in this important initiative for our countries. I have no doubt that development in Africa Under the technical leadership of the bank, we will be able to mobilize the necessary funds. Access to electricity is key to the economic development, prosperity and security of the G5 Sahelian country. "
