Peru: Renewable energy power generation fell 2% in February

    Peru’s Ministry of Energy stated in a report on preliminary data from the power sector that Peru’s unconventional renewable energy Complete Solar Kit generation in February was 216GWh, a decrease of 2% year-on-year.

    Specifically, in February, the power generation of natural gas power generation, diesel/coal/waste power generation, combined heat and power and steam power generation decreased significantly, down 11%, 15%, and 13% respectively; in addition, wind power generation and biomass energy decreased respectively 8%. However, solar power generation reached 64 GWh, an increase of 18% year-on-year.

    Despite the decline in production compared to February 2020, the total share of wind, solar and biomass reached 4.9% last month. A year ago, the share of 220 GWh of electricity generated by renewable energy was 4.6%.

    However, the share of unconventional renewable energy in total production is still down from 5.5% in January, because their total production fell by 20.6% month-on-month.
