Imports of foreign-made cells assembled into these panels have increased as Indian Battery For Panel Solar solar manufacturers expanded their module capacity last year.

Imported solar cells were valued at $633 million from April to the end of last year, exceeding the $572 million reported for the full last fiscal year.
According to India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry, China was the largest source of imported solar cells worth $578 million from April to December, Malaysia was the source of the product worth $20 million, and Thailand's solar cell trade in India was worth $1,600 million. Ten thousand U.S. dollars.
During the same period of the current financial year, India imported $2.5 billion worth of solar panels, with China accounting for 90% of the trade and exports worth $2.25 billion. Modules from Hong Kong accounted for $201 million of India's imports, with Malaysia exporting modules worth $25.3 million to India and Singapore worth $20 million.

In terms of solar module trade out of India, the country exported $81 million worth of products in the first nine months of FY22. The US was the largest destination for Indian panels, importing modules worth $59 million, accounting for 73% of India's module exports.
From April to the end of the year, India also exported $6.8 million worth of panels to Somalia and $4.55 million worth of panels to South Africa.
