India's state-owned hydropower producer SJVN recently announced plans to deploy 10GW of solar photovoltaic Of Solar Panels capacity in the country within the next five years. The company said the proposal has been accepted by the state government and a memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed in due course.

The solar projects will be installed on land allocated by the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation for an investment of 500 billion rupees ($6.6 billion/€5.8 billion). The power plant will be commissioned in stages and operated through a power purchase agreement (PPA). SJVN noted that Rajasthan was selected to participate in these projects because it provides the highest solar radiation capacity in the country.

This plan is in line with India's commitment to achieve 500GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030 and contributes to SJVN's target of 25GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Currently, the company has 2.75 GW of renewable energy capacity. In December last year, the company joined forces with sister company Dharma Valley Corporation (DVC) to build a 2GW PV project in India.
