Recently, IKEA has completed a 1.35 MW solar carport in Baltimore, Maryland, and plans to cooperate with the New York-based Distributed Solar Energy Development Company (DSD) to build seven more similar projectsnels Electric Solar Panels For Homes other stores in the United States.

The solar carport will help IKEA achieve its goal of using 100% renewable energy as a power source while increasing energy efficiency by 2025. DSD designed and built the Baltimore Carport. Preliminary results show that the energy demand purchased by the site between September 2020 and December 2020 has been reduced by 84%, which is equivalent to a 57% cost savings for the store.
The Baltimore project is the first of eight projects totaling 7 megawatts that DSD will develop for IKEA stores in Maryland and California. Other arrays are also expected to be completed this year. In January, DSD closed a $300 million debt financing funded by Credit Suisse. It also hinted that it will announce more deals in the near future.

The solar carport is expected to generate a total of 10.7 GWh of electricity per year. Five of these projects include energy storage systems with a total capacity of approximately 5 MWh.
In the United States, the company currently has 104 wind turbines in 51 properties, two geothermal properties, 240,784 solar panels, and 143 electric vehicle charging stations. Last year, the partner Ingka Group of the IKEA franchise system invested more than $700 million to support the transition to a zero-carbon net economy. As part of these efforts, Ingka Group has invested in two solar farms in Utah and Texas with a total capacity of 403 MW.
